Born in Greece, George immigrated to the United States with little more than hope and determination. His journey began in Brooklyn before eventually settling in Chicago, where he worked tirelessly in restaurant kitchens and dining rooms. Through hard work, discipline, and sacrifice, he steadily built a reputation for excellence, transforming his passion into a remarkable career in fine dining.
George’s legacy includes ownership and leadership of renowned establishments such as Chicago Prime Steakhouse, Five O’Clock Steakhouse, and Chicago Prime Italian, among many others. To George, customers were never just guests—they were friends, and he treated each person who walked through his doors with genuine warmth and respect. He mentored countless team members, helping shape the next generation of hospitality professionals.
In honor of his lifelong dedication to the industry, the family encourages donations to the George A. Kalkounos Endowed Scholarship Fund at Harper Community College, created to support students pursuing careers in culinary arts and hospitality.
