Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on the evening of February 15 along Yorkshire Osgood Road as 79-year-old Nancy Leonard of Osgood. The confirmation was made by the Darke County Coroner’s Office, bringing a name and face to a tragedy that has deeply affected the local community.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 8:52 p.m. to the 13700 block of Yorkshire Osgood Road after receiving reports of a person lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Leonard, who had suffered critical injuries after being struck by a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Investigators say the driver involved in the collision allegedly left the scene without stopping to render aid or report the incident. This development added further concern and urgency to the investigation. Authorities later located and took the driver into custody. Officials have not yet released the identity of the driver, and it remains unclear what charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
Emergency personnel worked quickly at the scene, but sadly, Leonard was pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries. Her passing has left family members, friends, and neighbors grieving the sudden loss of a woman remembered as a valued member of the community.
